The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a test that allows you to practice for the SAT and gives you a chance to enter the competition for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The test measures basic critical reading, mathematical, and writing skills learned in school. Your results allow you to assess your strengths and weaknesses and help you prepare for the SAT.
In order to qualify as an entrant in the scholarship competition, you must take the PSAT/NMSQT as a high school junior.
In many cases, the test will be administered by your high school. Check with your guidance office to learn more about when and where the exam is offered.
